Kelsey upgrades with Takeuchi investment

Kelsey Plant Hire has invested approximately £500,000 in 19 new Takeuchi excavators from CBL.

The new machines, ranging from the micro TB210 up to the eight-tonne TB290, represent a substantial renewal for the Kelsey fleet as the company embarks on a new episode.

Kelsey Plant Hire, based in Horsham, West Sussex, was established in 1994 by husband and wife team, Nadine and Nigel Kelsey hiring out self-drive diggers, dumpers, telehandlers, rollers and compressors. In 2007 the couple divorced but continued to work together until 2016 when Nadine (now Clark) took over complete control of the business.

‘We had been running mostly Bobcats and several Takeuchis on our hire fleet up until the end of last year,’ she says. ‘Our oldest machine is a Takeuchi and is still going strong with comparatively low running costs. We decided to buy mostly Bobcats through the recession years as they were cheaper than Takeuchi and our focus was very much on surviving the short term at that point.’

She has decided to switch to the more expensive Takeuchi models now, however, as they are more reliable, she says. ‘We need to supply customers with the very best in order to compete and maintain a glowing reputation,’ she says. ‘We have found that Takeuchi are a superior build quality and in true Japanese form, are very reliable. And of course most importantly, our customers prefer them.’
