Stakeholder Statement

Stakeholder Engagement:  as the Board of Directors of CBL, we have a legal responsibility under section 172 of the Companies Act 2006 to act in the way we consider, in good faith, would be most likely to promote the company's success for the benefit of its members as a whole, and to have regard to the long-term effect of our decisions on the company and its stakeholders.  This statement addresses the ways in which we as a Board fulfil this responsibility.

Promoting the company's success for its members: Clive Barford Limited was started by Clive Barford and continues to be controlled and run by the Barford family, alongside long-term investors.  We're proud of the ways in which the company has provided employment, training and financial reward for its owners and employees.  We aim to be South Britain’s largest quality plant hire and equipment sales specialist.  In a diverse market, CBL competes on quality and service, combined with excellent customer service.

In doing so, our twin aims are to maximise the company's ability to grow profits and market share whilst returning value to the shareholders.  We make strategic decisions based on long-term objectives, and will only provide equipment supplied by world leading manufacturers.

The interests of the company’s employees: The board considers our employees to be our greatest asset and the interest of our employees are always taken into consideration in the decisions that are made.  We are renowned for our customer service, which we cannot achieve without the product, customer and market knowledge of our team, alongside their commitment and loyalty.  We help to engage with team members by providing training and career development support, formal and informal workplace communication and ensuring that staff are regularly consulted and have an input into management decisions.

Our customers: We invest heavily in equipment and training so that we can continue to offer customers the best quality equipment with excellent service back up.  We are not the cheapest supplier and do not aim to be.  Our customers value the high degree of collaboration and service that we offer.

Our suppliers: We represent world leading manufacturers as an exclusive distributor. This is a close working relationship, feeding back market intelligence and product information and regularly receiving training for our skilled team.  We also seek to build strong working relationships with all suppliers, since they are integral in our ability to support excellent customer service.

Our community: We are a family-run company and have invested in our community through our charity donation scheme.  Each year we select a company charity nominated by an employee and match all funds raised by employees during the year.  The company also donates to individual charities supported by employees and local food banks.

The environment:  We recognise our environmental responsibilities, and are committed to reducing our carbon footprint through schemes to recycle waste materials and improve the efficiency of energy consumption, as well as embracing the upgrade of equipment to cleaner engine technology.
